Hi I’m new to this so I don’t now a lot. My problem is that have a laptop (Lenovo y50-70) that I want to change drives. From hdd to ssd(Samsung 850 evo. I have and usb to sata connector. When I connect the laptop with the ssd i can see that I have connected the in device manager. But it doesn’t show up in drive manéger.

So can I just swap out my old drive with the ssd. I now I will lose all data but that’s okay. I just wonder if it will recognise windows and be able to work. Or do I have to download windows on like a usb stick or something. As I said I’m new to this.

Solution
You need to have Windows installed on the SSD. The easiest way to do this is to clone the HDD to the SSD. Cloning means making a replica of one drive to another. Read and follow the instructions for the Samsung software that came with the SSD.

No.
One way or the other, you need to get the OS on this new drive.

Either clone from the old drive, or clean install on the new SSD.
Right now, it's just a blank drive.

Which do you desire to do?
