ASUS RT-68U SID is not broadcast in AP Mode

Hi,

I have an ASUS RT-68U Router which I am using in AP mode, by connecting it to a Sky Fibre Router (this is hooked up to the cabling in the house). Both the routers are connected using Cat5e ethernet cable. I am struggling to access the SIDs of the AP & no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to be working out. It looks like the SIDs of Asus are not being broadcast at all. Could you please help me resolve this issue? Here is what I have tried so far -

1: I have set up ASUS RT-68U in AP mode. Doing this as assigned it an IP address.
2: I have logged into my main routers(SKY Fibre Router) console and reserved the IP address of the AP so that the DHCP in the Sky Router doesn't assign the AP's IP to any of my other devices.
3: I have checked that both the Asus & Sky router are in the same subnet. From what I have read, this isn't an issue.
4: I have also checked that the Asus router is updated with the latest firmware (have tried both stock and merlin firmware)

I am struggling to understand where did I go wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Sri

Asus routers are very easy to use as access points. They have a one-button toggle. Is this the RT-AC68U? If so, then I would recommend using Merlin firmware -- https://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/

I would also recommend setting the LAN IP of the router on the Asus rather than using a reservation on your Sky router. Just be sure it is outside the DHCP range on the Sky.

Broadcasting the SSID on the Asus is independent of AP vs router mode. If you aren't getting the SSID, then do a factory reset of the Asus and start over.

Thank you for the quick response. The pointers you have certainly helped me. Here's is what I did to finally fix it..

1: I reset the Asus router to its factory settings..
2: I disconnected the Asus router from the Sky router (just removed the ethernet cable connecting the two).
3: I connected an ethernet cable to the Asus router and hooked it up to my laptop. In here, I set the Asus router to an IP address(192.168.0.46) in the AP mode (as recommended by @kanewolf)
4: I then removed the ethernet cable from my laptop and connected to the SID of the Sky router. Now, I configured the DHCP to start from outside the IP address of the Asus router. My DHCP now starts from 192.168.0.47 to 192.168.0.255. I didnt reserve any IP addresses on my Sky router, this time around.
5: Once all of these are done, I connected the Asus router to my Sky router using an ethernet cable.

I can now see the SID of both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ channels from my Asus router. I have hidden the SID of my Sky router from being broadcast. Here is my final set up -

Sky Router's IP address - 192.168.0.45
Asus Router's IP address - 192.168.0.46
Asus Router's Default Gateway - 192.168.0.45 (Sky Router's IP)
Asus Router running in AP mode, connected to the Sky Router using an Ethernet cable
DHCP on Sky Router starts from 192.168.0.47 - 192.168.0.254

NB : I have changed IP addresses in this post for obvious reasons.

Thats a good point. The Sky router doesn't have a physical switch to turn off the radio. There was however an option to disable the Wireless Access Point in the web interface. Do you think this is good enough ? My apologies, if this sounds like a really basic question, but I am a noob in this sphere!
