Hello all, so I'm completely new to building gaming PC's and have decided to build a high end rig after having played on a mid tier rig for 4 years. After days upon days of research with a relatively high budget I have decided which components I am going to get but I would like some opinions and advice from experienced builders.

The new PC specs are:
Case - Cooler Master Mastercase Maker 5t
Mobo - Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7
CPU - Intel I5 8700k
GPU - GeForce GTX 1080ti Waterforce Xtreme 11gb (AIO)
PSU - Corsair AX860w ATX 80 Plus Platinum Certified
Ram - DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x8gb 3000mhz
CPU Fan - Corsair H100i V2 (AIO)
SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 500gb
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm (Using off of my old rig)

Thank you for reading, I welcome all opinions, feedback and advice.

You should be able to run games in 4k just fine, but it would depend on the fps you are going for. 4k high or ultra / custom mix of tweaked settings at 60fps is definitely obtainable. I have a few friends with 1070s who game in 4k at 60fps on high end games just fine, but they are not using ultra preset. They get 60fps range on a custom mix of settings.

It does depend on if you are willing to tweak settings, like little things that are basically impossible to notice. The ultra preset is usually extremely inefficient. Typically you can tweak a few settings and gain 20-30% increase or more in fps with what is usually less than 10% increase in visual quality.. Most games I've seen you can't even see the difference in shadows between ultra...

Hmm not quite THE best but what I am asking is will it be good enough for 4k ultra settings on even the most demanding games? Apologies if these questions sound stupid but like stated I am a complete and utter newbie :p

Edit: Sorry didn't mean to downvote your comment

No, it will not run 4k ultra on all games. Nothing will except maybe a Titan xp or sli 1080ti’s on games that have a profile.

But, keep in mind that at 4k there less need to run at ultra as much less AA is required. As a mid-step, I run BF1 at 1440p high and it looks soooo much better than 1080p/ultra. One could extrapolate that 4k mix of med/high on demanding games will still look amazing and hit a 60fps target.

Ah yes I didn't think that it would on all games at 4k ultra, buying a Titan xp is out of the question as I understand that if you want to SLI GPU's you have to make sure they are the same card so that still remains an option for in the future should I decide to further upgrade my rig.

But saying that, if what you're saying about not needing to set everything all on ultra due to being little to no performance increase and still being able to hit 60fps, then I might be able to skip out buying another GPU which would save me hundreds of £££'s.

Thanks for your advice.

Most games I've seen you can't even see the difference in shadows between ultra and very high, but you gain a lot of fps. Most AAA games you can't even tell the difference in a side by side of ultra / very high preset..

Naturally you won't need nearly as much AA because higher resolution has less aliasing. I would say display size would also make a huge difference here. If it's 32" or less then you can MUCH more room to tweak the settings before any noticeable difference. Higher resolution, lower settings looks far superior than lower resolution and high settings. Try putting a game at 720p on ultra preset, now put it at 1080p on medium, it's not even going to be close and 1080p only has twice as many pixels as 720p. 4k has 4 times as many pixels and 1080p, just imagine how much better that would look strictly based on the resolution.

TLDR
Yes, just be willing to tweak the settings a little bit based on what you can realistically notice which will still look absolutely amazing.

I read your whole reply and I'm glad to say that between your post and the post by J_E_D_70 my mind has been put at rest knowing my specs will suit my needs just fine. I have bought a Asus PB287Q 28" so from what you're saying I should have some leeway to adjust the settings accordingly.

Your post was very informative and helpful, thank you very much.
