Hello!

I've reached a point in time where my current CPU is beginning to fail and slow down, currently I've got an AMD FX 8350 (Black Edition). My problem lies in my motherboard, I'd like to get the best processor that my board can handle, but after some research I've discovered my board isn't as "advanced" as I once thought.

My Board is the "Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0", and I'd like to find the best processor that the board can handle. Or perhaps advice as to how I can push my processing capabilities even further.

Please keep in mind there is no set budget, I'd like the best of the best. Any advice or recommendations are indeed appreciated.

Considering you have an FX-8350 chip the only "Better" chips are basically higher clocked versions of your chip. In which case getting a good heatsink and fan and overclocking your processor to the desired chips clockspeeds would get you the same effect as buying the faster chips for much less money.

Now that said. Your best bet for a CPU upgrade on the AMD side is moving to the AM4 platform with at minimum a Ryzen 5 1500X or above. (Yes the Ryzen 5 1500X which is a 4 core 8 thread chip is faster than the FX-8350 and probably even the FX-9590 at stock clocks while using much less power).

It should be noted that AMD is releasing a refreshed line of Ryzen (2x00 series) chips this April along with AM4's first APU's on Feb 12th. The...

The refreshed chips will have higher clockspeeds, higher Overclocking headroom, will be released with the new x470 chipset motherboards, better memory support, and more granular turboboost functionality.
