I saw smoke coming from under the heatsink on my motherboard, an Asrock X99 Extreme6, and it didnt turn on anymore. I bought an X99 Extreme4 for cheap to replace it with but my pc didn't turn on with that either. I'm guessing CPU and/or RAM is broken too so I'm going to return the MoBO and upgrade MoBo+CPU+RAM instead.
1)When I try to boot with the X99 Extreme4 the lights are on and the fans spin for about a second. Is this possible with a broken CPU and RAM or does one of them still work?
2)I still have warranty on the CPU and RAM so I should be able to get those repaired/replaced and be able to sell them right?
3)Any reason to get another motherboard and RAM than the ones I picked? MoBO was one of the cheaper ones and the RAM seemed to have the best frequency and CAS latency.
