Hey forum lurkers, I'm currently in a sticky situation, While playing some Fortnite last night my garbage Apevia psu started smelling very bad and the screen went out. On the good side, The computer fans and LEDs were still spinning, I unplugged the pc and turned it on and it booted up fine. I decided to start investing some time into finding a new PSU or a used PSU, I stumbled upon a EVGA 750W PSU for 10 bucks on OfferUp. But there's a catch, It's dead. I'm not the most familiar with electronics but I have the time to possibly fix it, I know the hazards in fixing a dead PSU with possible lethal shocks in the capacitors but that's a risk I'm willing to take. Do you think I should invest the 10 bucks and attempt fixing this PSU or should I go out and buy a new PSU? My teacher is a advocate of electronics and computing so I do have some help. Also what would be the best way to approach this? Should I let the PSU sit unplugged for a few days before considering to fix it?? My overall question is, Is it even reasonable to invest this much time into a fixing this PSU? Thanks ! ALSO what could be possible problems? The guy said the PSU is brand new.
