How do I tell if a mobo on an ebay listing is compatible with i5 3570?

Solution

Any H77, Z77, Q77, B75 board is compatible.
Any H67, Z68, Q67, Q65, H61, B65 is compatible, when with appropriate BIOS update.
The issue here is you honestly want to be steering clear of the hp,lenovo, dell, intel branded boards.
Most of those (if not all) have limited bios updates & while they may support the 3570 youll be stuck when it comes to upgrading the gpu etc in the future.

Youll struggle to find a decent branded board at a decent price nowadays though.

So youre actually needing cpu ,ram & motherboard ??

What do you have to spend on those 3 components?

The only way you can know which BIOS is compatible with that processor is to check with each MB's manufacturer CPU compatibility list. With MBs from brand nae computers it's very tricky and may not have such a list. Very often they are not even compatible with standard cases and all connectors may be non-standard. I would keep away from MBs like that or you may have to take chances with compatibility.

is it possible to update those bios with only the 3570 cpu? Also should I just get the k series if i'm getting those 77 75 mobos?

You should look at 3rd or up gen i5's since even 4th gen i5's go for real cheap nowadays are a bit better and the motherboards are lower priced. You can even still find some new.
