Would an EVGA SuperNOVA 850 T2 PSU be sufficient for my PC?

Hello people of Tom's Hardware.

I had a question, I have reasons to believe my current 850w g2 PSU from EVGA might be dying, my v12 rail output in the bios is around 10.7, and it tends to shift between 11.5 and 12.3 etc. however sometimes it's on the low side. I had to RMA my 1080 card because the screen went black and the fans of the 1080 were spinning up to like 100%, when I RMA'd it to the shop I bought it from, they ran tests on the GPU for an entire night and didn't encounter this issue, so it might be my PSU, I have no idea.

Anyways, back to my initial question. I am planning to send the 850w PSU I have now back, and wish to buy the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 T2 instead.

I was also looking at the EVGA Supernova 1000 T2 but I think that PSU might be overkill for my PC.

I have a couple of case fans, 6 of them, my CPU cooler (obviously) goes along with that aswell.

My specs:

CPU: i7 8700k
Mobo: ASROCK Extreme 4
RAM: Corsair Vengance 16 GB dual-channel (2x 8 GB's)
Videocard: (Still waiting to retrieve my card from RMA, it'll either be a GTX 1080 or a 980ti)

I have a soundcard aswell in my PC, 1 SSD (Samsung EVO 850 1 TB) and 1 HDD from Western Digital 1 TB.

Would the 850 T2 be able to run this system with power to spare or should I go for the 1000w?

Thanks in advance!

To a extent yes but not really enough to matter.
For all the efficiency ratings they don't really mean a better power supply. Their have even been instances when a company will hand pick a power supply to send in for testing. You can build 1000 of the same power supplies with the exact same parts and some will be better than others that is just the way it goes. This is not saying they will be a big difference but one could pass gold rating and another silver rating.
If you wish get another 850 watt power supply if I was buying one today I would get this one.

10.7 is out of specks the 11.5 and 12.3 are OK.

A quality 650 watt PSU will run what you have listed with power to spare.
Why would you be getting a GTX 980ti for a RMA of a GTX 1080.

Because I used to have a 980ti but that card broke down after 2 years, which is pending in RMA now for 2 weeks, the 1080 what I send back to the store, they gave me a full refund from the card, no idea why as there was nothing wrong with the card according to the shop. But, I am not complaining.

The 980ti, is not sold anymore by EVGA, so they might send me a 1080, which I am hoping for. If not, then a 980ti will suit me just fine with what I do.

Would a 650w PSU really do the trick? That seems awfully low to me. I got recommended by a shop to go with a 750w PSU, but I chose a 850w instead in order to make sure that the PSU has power to spare and doesn't overload itself (if thats even possible, lol)

Though this odd v12 power output thing made me doubt 850w in a whole, I don't know if 1000w would suit me better, I used to run for about 5 years with a 1000w corsair PSU without any problems, I've never checked it's v12 rail output though, I had no reason to believe the PSU was possibly faulty until it literally blew up on me in my case.

I certainly didn't expect that, hm.

Would I see a difference between the EVGA SuperNova 850 T2 PSU and the SuperNova 850w G2 I have currently other than increased (presumed) longevity as it is a titanium PSU instead of gold?

Apologies for the double post but ontop of my question above, is it also true that the watts in a PSU degrade over the years? Or is this just a myth or something?

The efficiency of the PSU decreases with the years, so lets say a 850w psu goes along for 5 years, after those 5 years it is not as efficient anymore?

Any particular reason as to why I should buy that one and not the EVGA SuperNova 850 T2 PSU? My knowledge about PSU's does not go that far, all I know is that EVGA and Corsair products are decent in terms of RAM and PSU's, GPU's etc.

Seasonic is unknown to me.

Seasonic is one of the top 2 manufactors of power supplies. Corsair and EVGA has never made a power supply their all rebrands.
The 850 T2 is based off a Super Flower design and is al s o a good power supply.
Either should do you fine the Seasonic should cost a lot less and last just as long.
I have a Corsair TX 850 V2 in my son's PC that I used at one time it's still going strong after about 7 years (made by Seasonic)

Alright! Thanks man for all your support and replies, I made my mind up about the PSU and will most likely go for the Seasonic one if I do end up buying a new PSU.

Thanks again man!

As mentioned before, a 650 gold or platinum rated psu will be fine for your setup. Go for 750/850w if you are not sure. IF you planning to do SLI then you will need the 850w PSU

I'm running a 650w EVGA G2 fine with the following:

Ryzen 1700x @3.95ghx
NZXT x62 AIO
1 x SSD
1 X 3TB HDD
1x EVGA GTX1080 FTW
a NZXT Hue+ with 3 lighting strips
3x 140mm case fans
