Friend's laptop suddenly started doing this and he is unable to browse the internet or play any games. Any ideas on what to do to solve it, or would it be best to get it sent in for repairs? Thanks!

Solution
Does it happen in the BIOS screen, soon as Windows loads or after being used for a bit? Could be overheating, could be a failing video card, drive issue can do this at times. You would need someone that knows about computers try some things like uninstalling and re-installing the drivers from the laptop vendor support site, check temps, test a clean Windows setup maybe. A repair is not very likely to help much unless it's overheating, then cleaning the heatsink and using new thermal paste may help. Often a repair shop will get the system back after $300 worth of work, and the system will do the same thing in a week or a month.
