My wife has a Dell laptop Inspiron 15 3000, tag no. 3SYJ982, model no. 3558. I want to know if Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500gb is compatible to use for an upgrade

I cloned the original hard drive to the Samsung ssd 500gb, but it did not result in that much of a speed increase. I wonder if there are some things I could do to see the speed-up that I expected.

This depends on what you're looking at, and what you're doing with the PC.
How are you measuring this speed increase?

It is the general feel of how fast the boot-up and response times were and are.
Samsung magician says the read and write speeds are in the 300's, not around 500 like they say for the specs
