Hi All,

Currently setting up a small architecture studio in a shared office environment.

Existing Setup
There is currently an ISP Router sharing internet to roughly 20 PC's through Wifi and some Ethernet connections. The router isn't assigning any IP addresses and the owner doesn't want to fiddle with their Router in fear of creating problems for others.

Proposed Setup
- Run an Ethernet cable from the ISP Router into our Switch
- Our network will have 4 wired PC's, Printer and NAS.

Questions
- Can we make this a private network with our own IP addresses?
- Can we have our new switch obtain an IP address from the ISP Router and then produce our own private network?
- Will we still be able to get the internet?
- Can someone recommend an appropriate switch with link aggregation (Our NAS has this) to do the job.

Thanks for your help.
Liam

Solution
You will need a router to accomplish what you want.

Link aggregation buy very little when you do not have a lot of machines. A single machine will only use a single path and it is not really smart about load balancing. If you get unlucky it could put all your sessions on a single connection and leave the other idle. Large numbers of machines tend to even out the randomness. It is not used much in commercial installation now that 10g ports are rather inexpensive and it eliminates the load balance issues.

Thanks Bill.

I did a bit of research and will setup the Router LAN to WAN.
