hey everyone, i have recently got an astro a40tr and a pair of edifier 2730db speakers which are both incredible. But i am needing a soundcard for the 7.1 surround sound for my astros (to use the optical cable) and to plug my speakers into to increase audio quality as im using onboard audio at the moment. If someone could recommend one for my budget that would be great. Also i was wondering if i need to install anything to use the surround sound on my mix amp astros? or does the mixamp come already with the surround "inside" it.

Whats your motherboard? Soundcards usually give you either a bit worse or the same audio quality anyways as generic onboard audio unless you spend hundreds on them.

Uhhh...no. Even cheap soundcards like the ASUS Xonar DGX is a major step up from onboard.

Regardless, if you're using optical you won't see any benefit to a soundcard, as whatever you connect to will be doing the bulk of the audio processing, not the soundcard.

Yeah i know dude, im getting the soundcard for my speakers but also using it for the 7.1 for my astros. Thinking about the creative soundblaster z
