Hi guys/gals. I’m not sure why but I just can’t get a perfect alignment with my mobo and i/o shield. My case is the NZXT H700i. I made sure the i/o shield was installed correctly and my mobo is perfectly lined up with the various holes I needed to put screws into. Maybe the cutouts are too big? I don’t know. I also had to bend some pieces back on the inside of the i/o shield because they were in the way. Is that normal? I’ve watched videos and it looked like a 1-2-3 process, so I’m not sure what’s the deal.

Solution
It looks like the standoffs are just a little bit short on the base of your case causing your motherboard to sit a little "low".
What you can do is buy some fibre washers and put them between the top of the standoffs and the motherboard (one per standoff to start with).
This will slightly raise the motherboard and bring it into better alignment with the I/O shield.
Add more it you need them.

Omg. Thank you so much gdmaclew! :D That actually makes perfect sense. I just knew it had to be something out of my control because I was at it for hours trying to get it to align perfectly and it just wouldn’t. One last question for you if I may. I’m kind of worried that I shouldn’t have bent the tabs on the i/o shield all the way inward. I folded them back against the shield itself. Was I supposed to leave them as is and try to work around them while inserting my mobo?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Does it show on the picture you posted or, if not, could you post another picture to clarify?

You're most welcome. Motherboards and cases and other components deal with such close tolerances that any deviation in any one of them, however slight, can lead to a situation like yours.

Oh, sorry. I’m just talking about these metal tabs on the back of the i/o shield. They’re located right behind a few of my port cutouts. I’m feeling a little paranoid because from what I’ve read they’re supposed to touch your motherboard in order to ground it or something like that.

I see.
You are partially right.
They also help the manufacturer get Underwriter Laboratories approval
and to pass other kinds of tests where conducted & radiated emissions
(stray electromagnetic fields) are measured.
If you are worried about grounding your motherboard, you could always replace a few of the fibre washers with metal ones of the same thickness.
