Hi!

I recently bought 67 SAS and SATA drives from an office that couldn't pay his rent so they left overnight and left a lot of stuff behind, including the drives, 4 towers, a bunch of cables and like 7 monitors. Most of the drives have a caddy but many don't. Is there any way to test them to see if they work and wipe them? I've been trying to check the SATA drives connecting them to one of the towers (a Dell Optiplex 960) but they won't even past boot. Many have something Red Hat Enterprise and I can't do anything with them. Is there a way to totally wipe the data in them if they won't even boot? Excuse my lack of computer language, this is kind of a new environment for me and I just want to see if it's worth the hassle of working on them to see if I can sell them or not. thanks.

Solution
You would need a SAS controller card to work with the SAS drives if your motherboard(s) do not have that capability. While SAS controllers should be able to read SATA , the reverse is not true. As g-unit indicated, an external dock may get you access to the sata drives without plugging them one at a time into a system. Downloading the manufacturers utilities for the drives in question would also be helpful for you.
