MOBO and I/O Shield Not Aligned

Hi guys/gals. I’m not sure why but I just can’t get a perfect alignment with my mobo and i/o shield. My case is the NZXT H700i. I made sure the i/o shield was installed correctly and my mobo is perfectly lined up with the various holes I needed to put screws into. Maybe the cutouts are too big? I don’t know. I also had to bend some pieces back on the inside of the i/o shield because they were in the way. Is that normal? I’ve watched videos and it looked like a 1-2-3 process, so I’m not sure what’s the deal.

Here is a pic for reference.

It looks like you do, but just to be safe, do you have the stand-offs for your motherboard installed? It looks like you do, but want to double check. That would make them not line up for sure.

Anyways, I always have to fidget with the I/O shield a bit. Having to bend the shield 'fins' is fairly normal. It eventually lines up though. You may need to unscrew your motherboard from the case in order to wiggle it in there a bit better if you are unable to plug things in.

You don't mention the motherboard brand, but I've had that problem on the less expensive MSI and Gigabyte motherboards. Not a whole lot you can do than "customize" the cutouts to work with the various plugs.

Thank you guys so much for the prompt responses. I really appreciate it!

@Gam3r01 Oh, okay. Yeah, I was able to plug in a USB cable just fine in a couple slots I tried but it just looks kind of weird since it’s a little off-centered.

@jimthenagual Yeah, my case came with the stand-offs pre-installed in the correct configuration, so all I had to do was align and put in the screws. Glad to hear the bending is normal as well. Yeah, I had to bend/fold them completely inward. I just don’t understand the misalignment though. I was it pretty much all day yesterday until I just admitted it had to be on right the whole time.

@mazboy My apologies. It’s the Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming. Yeah, I’m starting to think maybe Asus just made the I/O Shield cutouts too big or something. Sigh.
