Please help i just upgraded my CPU from the Athlon x4 620 to the Phenom x4 965 at 3.4ghz, not overclocking at all. I put thermal paste and the same CPU cooler i used with my x4 but im getting 50 - 55c on idle, and im on windows 10. When i ran a cpu stress from CPU-Z i got the high 70's C from HWmonitor. Then i shut my system down, and googled what the safe temps were and i know something is wrong now because on my athlon i would get around 35c on idle and late 40c's on load. My case is the Antec P50 and its got very good case airflow so i dont think its the case at all.

Case: Antec P50
Motherboard: GA-MA78LMT-US2H Rev 1.1
Cpu: now its the Phenom x4 965
Cooler: Akasa
Thermal paste: Xigmatek High performance
Power supply: Be quiet 500w Pure power 80+
8gb DDR3 Ram
GPU: GTX 1050

I think its the CPU cooler though, should i change the CPU cooler because its an Akasa one? If so what should i change it to because i cant fit a Hyper 212 Evo into my case because of the height? I need a low profile one. What do i do? :(

I see. The stock cooler for the 965 would have been better than that cooler. Otherwise for small spaces something like -> https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Vortex-Plus-RR-VTPS-28PK-R1/dp/B003INFE16 would be a better choice. I'm recommending this one due to it using the AM3+'s stock cooling bracket which also means it would be compatible with the AM4 socket even though it says it...

I'd try reseating your CPU cooler. And if you can get us the exact model of your Akasa cooler so we know what the cooling specs are for the cooler. The Athlon x4 620 and phenom X4 965 shouldn't have that much of a difference in heat when they are idling so I don't think the Phenom X4 should be running at 55C at idle.

I just purchased a cooler for AM3 on Amazon and it was on offer, its under 130mm in height so it should fit in my case hopefully, I knew the cooler was the problem. Thanks mate!
