Hi guys this is my setup so far
CPU RYZEN 5 1600
MOBO ASROCK FATAL1TY K4 B350
RAM DDR4 3000 LPX VENGEANCE
GPU 1060
STORAGE 2TB HDD
500W PSU
I'm mainly a gamer but soon may branch to content creation

Are upgrading just to upgrade or is there something about your PC that's not fast enough?
The first thing that catches my eye is your HDD.
You should get a SSD. That would provide the biggest difference with the smallest investment.

NOTHING else catches my eye. I personally would NOT upgrade anything else.

I wouldn't spend the money for a 1070 as the difference would be too small.
Maybe if you wanted to go big you could spend a fortune on a 1080Ti. I would recommend you wait until (at least) next gen to upgrade though.

Exactly how much RAM do you have? 4GB? (DEFINITELY upgrade it) 8GB? (Upgrade for content creation and breathing room in games. 8GB is bare minimum now.) 16GB? (good for gaming and some development) 32GB? (perfect for heavier content development)

GPU is good for most 1080p usage... I'd recommend a 1080 or 1080ti for higher resolutions.

500W PSU... what brand and model? 500W is good for what you want, but quality is more important for your investment,

Consider a SSD for a boot drive... I'd recommend at least a 240GB model. The HDD you have might become tight on space if you get into content development, so an upgrade there is something to think about too.

Now... what to upgrade first... well get back to us on the specifics of your PSU and that will help decide.

EDIT:

The PSU concerns me a bit, especially at 3yrs old...

The SSD is a great place to start... faster boot times especially.

If the amount of RAM is adequate.... Storage and power is where I'd personally start.

I recently upgraded my gpu so lets rule that out. The most compelling upgrade is either the ssd or ram (I have 8gb btw)

Lets say I go for an SSD should I go for an m.2 or sata? and how much space should I invest in.

If I go for the ram will it benefit me much in games or is this suggested mainly for content creation.

Which out of the two will benefit me the most.

.

M.2 is nice for space saving and less cables. It can be more expensive though, especially with NVMe drives. (verify that you can use SATA, if you go that way, or NVMe if you go the more expensive, but faster (noticeably? depends) way. A regular SATA 2.5" SSD is good too.

Look for at least 240GB of space on the SSD so you can some of your apps/ or (a) game(s) on it.

8GB of RAM. Bare minimum now days. 16GB would give your games more room to work. 16GB isn't a bad place to start for beginning content development.

I think you'd see a bit more improvement with the RAM though with some of today's AAA titles.

Do you think it could wait until ram prices drop?

You can wait for RAM prices to drop if you wish... I'm not sure when that will happen though... as long as you're satisfied with your current gaming performance... in which case the SSD is a good choice, ignoring that aging lower end PSU.
