Hi,

I'm looking for good memory for my new build but its so expensive at the moment.
I was looking at some options, a 4x4GB RAM sticks (Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz) is the one I found that is relatively cheap.
Question is,
Is that RAM compatible with the MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Board?
That is a dual channel board and the RAM is quad channel. Can it still be installed without losing out on efficiency?

BTW my CPU is an i7 7700k which may also not support quad channel but im not sure. :/

Thanks...

The RAM in question will still work with your board and will operate in dual channel mode. The dual or quad channel is not dictated by the RAM sticks themselves rather your motherboard and CPU will determine how many channels you can use.

The Z series boards support dual channel whereas the X series boards will allow up to four channels. Just because that kit ships with 4 sticks doesn’t mean it’s meant for quad channel. Your board has an A and B channel and those 4 sticks will be divided into those two channels with 8GB per channel. This doubles the bandwidth available to the CPU.

In short, you’ll be fine using that kit on your board. It will operate as dual channel memory.
