GPU not sending signal

The gpu in my brothers computer is not sending a signal to his screen. He has an r9 280, and i have tried plugging his gpu into my pc and still no signal. When i plug my gtx 970 into his pc there is a signal. Is there a way to fix this? We don't want to have to buy a new gpu.

Sounds like the video card is bad. Well, you could try cleaning the contacts w/ 90% alcohol and possibly re-applying the thermal paste. You could also try the "video card in oven" trick: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Temporarily+repair+a+lost-cause+graphics+card+by+heating+it+up+in+an+oven/2240

That trick actually worked for an old Radeon card from an iMac I had.
