4 pins connector for an 8 pins mother board?

I'm trying to make a pc and I stumbled across a problem. My power supply only has a 4pins connector, but my motherboard has an 8 pins connector. Can I still just connect the 4 pins and be done with it? I have a g4400 if that helps

Technically it should run with 4 , but 8 should be used if you want a stable setup. Time to upgrade the power supply.

A PSU without an 8 pin should be replaced.

The 8 pin power is needed if you are overclocking or if you are using all of your expansion slots.
Normally, your 4 pin cpu power cable will fit just fine in one half of the 8 pin socket.
If that does not work, you can buy a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter cable.

I just have a g4400, an asrock b150m-hds motherboard, and 4gb ram. I don't have a video card.

Really, you should be OK with a 4 pin in half of the slot.
That assumes that the motherboard is ok with that.

You could download the motherboard manual and read about the 8 pin slot.
Some will explicitly state that a 4 pin is ok, others will be silent.

If you want to be certain, order a 4 pin to 8 pin cpu power adapter cable along with your other parts.
They are cheap.

It will probably work , but you should really get a more modern PSU that has an 8 pin.
