I have 2 options at this point. I'm going to get around$ 800 soon and I have an Asus B-350f strix motherboard Got it pretty cheap. I was wondering if I should just get a Ryzen 1700 and get a $550 GPU or sell my motherboard and get a i5 8600k with $450 left over for a GPU. I love to multitask this means I watch 4k movies/shows while gaming or 1080p streams. I also like to steam but it shouldn't be something you should keep in mind because I don't stream intensive or alot. I think the 8 cores will be great but the main reason to get this is the best gaming performance. I have a 144hz 1080p monitor so I'm not sure if the Ryzen 7 take advantage of that but with the intel I'll only have 450 for a GPU. I'm not sure what I should do at this point. I'll probably have to wait a month for GPU prices to drop anyways. Thank you for reading this!

Best gaming performance is the i5 8600k, however since you already have the Asus Strix B350-F go with the ryzen. It doesnt make sense to sell that board at a loss and then cut into your budget for a roughly 10% performance increase in games at 1920x1080. Drop an R5 1600 in there and overclock it then use the money saved for a SSD if you dont already have one

I have one! probably the best upgrade for a computer right now. I was thinking about going with a 1700 and a 1070 ti. Which do you think is better for the long or short run. the 8 core processor looks nice for the future but the problem is the clock speed right?

If you aren't opposed to overclocking, then the low clockspeed of the R7 1700 isn't an issue. I currently run my R7 at 3.8ghz and have it paired with a GTX 1060 3gb and I can play just about any game at maximum settings at 1920x1080. The stock cooler that comes with an R7 1700 should allow for speeds around 3.8ghz. Now with the i5 8600k, you'd have to budget in a cooler since it doesn't include one
