Hey, i play Overwatch on basically the lowest settings (used youtube to find best settings).

and i recently upgraded to a 144hz monitor (asus VG248QE) because i heard that it is extremely better. Im using a Mini Displayport to Displayport cable to connect it to my laptop. My FPS drops during fights and it fluctuates between 50-70 FPS. The whole point of getting this monitor was to get a better gaming experience but im getting quite the opposite.

Honestly any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

The laptop im using is MSI GE72 6QF
my specs are:
Windows 10 Home
Latest 6th Gen. Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ processor
GeForce® GTX 970M graphics with higher performance
Intel(R) HD Graphics 530
16GB DDR4 (8G * 2)
3GB GDDR5 (graphics ram)
256GB SSD (PCIE GEN3 NVMe) +1TB (SATA) 7200rpm

If i havent provided enough information please let me know!

A high refresh rate monitor isn’t going to increase your FPS, but rather allow the game to run at a higher FPS. If 50-70 was what you were getting before you got the monitor, then there is nothing wrong here.

If you were getting 100+ FPS without the monitor, the laptop screen would be limiting you to 60. Then that monitor would allow you to run at up to 144
