On Monday I decided to acquire from my ISP a new router as mine was four years old and appeared to be running slow. The new router duly arrived yesterday and was correctly plugged in and suddenly one of our two ethernet computers wasn’t able to be connected and the ISP techo’s decided that it was faulty and sent a replacement arriving today and this time we had one machine on ethernet running really well while other machine was recognised as Wifi. Tried to access internet and no go, was told the machine was unrecognised and no matter what we try no net on this device

What is the make and model of the assumed culprit router?
Have you made sure your wireless device can see the router's SSID?
Is this consistent with all wireless device's in your household or to a number of wireless device's?
Are you sure you're confusing limited access to a site(courtesy of site maintenance) with no access due to your router?
