Build:
Gigabyte GA-990X-GAMING-SLI
AMD FX-8350 8-core CPU woth wraith cooler
Radeon RX 480

So my pc that I built over a year ago has recently had issues with games that I believed to be relared to my GPU.

I downloaded msi afterburner but it didn't really help and had no clue what to do...until someone suggested it could be my CPU core temp...the past week, since I cleaned my PC I've been getting regular system hangs and sometimes the pc will just turn off , as you'd expect with a power trip or an overheating CPU.

I've found that even when in the BIOS alone, all 8 cores will remain at 79 degrees C so it's clear thats the issue. I'm pretty new to this kind of thing so not really sure what I can do to solve this.

I've already changed the slope for the cpu fan in bios but to no avail, sadly.

Edit 1: Thanks for the swift response; my mistake in not including that information.

The missing hardware info:

Addon AWP1200E 1200Mbps AC dual band PCI-E adaptor
Western digital WD10EZEX 1Tb SATA 3 WD , 6 Gb/s
LITEON 120Gb SATA III 2.6 SSD
16 Gb vulcan Red (2x8 Gb) gddr5
EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500 W 80 plus certified power supply 40 amp.single rail
CIT PRISMBKRGB casr with 2xRGB front fans 1x usn 3.0 + side window

As for reapplying thermal paste; Ive never actually removed the wraith cooler before. Would it be an idea to do so in order to apply thermal paste?

This is actually my first build; the wraith cooler came with the PC!

I will get images of that information from the BIOS now.

Is this the correct information?

Edit 3:

New information: bottom fan for the front of the case it not actually working, I don't know why. I didn't notice, since the top fan is still spinning away and hence assumed both were fine. GPU and wraith cooler are both purring away though.

Edit 4:

I fixed the intake fan, still exactly the same temperatures. Genuinely frustrated that everything I try has me at a complete loss lol

Overclocking is more of a package affair. We'll need to know the make and model of your ram's, PSU, case and SSD/HDD. From the way you've worded that post, I think you didn't apply the cooler in the right orientation or you forgot to apply thermal paste upon reinstallation. Can you get back to us regarding those matters?

Once we verified you're application of TIM was ok, your airflow is optimal and that your drivers are all in order, I'll need you to do one more thing. Can you take pics of what you're seeing within your BIOS pertaining the overclocking/advanced section? Your voltages might need some tweaking.

On another note, what was your cooler prior to the Wraith?

I had problems with my fx 8350 hitting 75C using a AIO Liquid cooler from Coolermaster. After the 5th application of TiM (pea method) I shut off the cpu ability to run Turbo locking the CPU to 4Ghz ran some tests and temps was down to 28C. hmmmm room for improvement so i upped the base clock to 4.1Ghz tested again and 34C. raised the clock to 4.2Ghz CPU now sits at its Turbo frequency and sits at 39C idle and 48C underload. I concluded that the GA-990x SLi was not handling Turbocore correctly when left to ramp the CPU up. setting it manually and shutting off powersaving features has corrected the problems i was having. Why Turbocore worked fine on one board and not another i can only put down to the BIOS of the motherboards. Hope this helps.
If you need any help message me I will be happy to share my settings with you. BTW in the BIOS set fan control to Disabled and turn off Cool n Quiet that will run them at max .
