I am thinking of buying the Intel Core 7700k to replace my current cpu, but i don't know if i would have to buy a new motherboard with it or if it will fit on my current one. According to what i found when i googled it it should be fine, but i'm asking just to make sure.

Another side question that maybe should be my first question: My current CPU is the Intel Core I5 4460 and my GPU is the GTX 970, which one would be best to upgrade first?

Solution
No! You'll need a Z270 chipset board or a board that is from the 200 series chipset by Intel.

In short,
H270
B250
Z270

The board you have will only support Intel's Haswell and Haswell refresh processors.

Which one should you upgrade? Depends on what your PC is failing to perform for you. If it's games then get a new GPU, although a 970 should be fairly adequate. And unless you do some heavy processing or rendering calculations I don't see that processor bottlenecking anything. I have a 3770k and it has 0 issues with modern performance. Honestly, I haven't seen much value in upgrading a CPU from Intel in quite some years, the performance difference has been negligible.
