q6600 OC WITHOUT tapemod

I just watched a linus tech tips video where linus overclocked a q6600. I happen to be running a q6600 on a optiplex 755 motherboard (lga 775 socket) Within the bios [a22] I find no operations that would alter how the bios clocks this. Is there a different version of bios I could be running, or should I try to find a cheap mobo with overclocking that includes the 775 socket?

exactly. the motherboard does not support overclocking. you need one that does if you wish to oc the chip.

the tape-mod was an easy way to get a bit extra from the chip on non-oc boards.

No, Dell sell the OptiPlex for use as a workstation machine which means it prioritizes stability. To this effect overclocking will only introduce stability issues if and when not done right.

If you're going for the LGA775 platform, you could probably find a bundle with a Q9550+LGA775 board+DDR2/DDR3 ram to overclock and get your feet wet, of sorts.

It's not an option in the BIOS because that CPU does NOT have an unlocked multiplier.

Most easy overclocking is done by just changing a "Multiplier" setting in the BIOS. However, if the CPU doesn't support this you'll have to overclock by changing the FSB. The FSB change also affects the clock frequency of the CPU and the Frquency of the RAM.
Mess it up or go too high on that setting and you could ruin your motherboard, CPU or RAM (or multiple). For this reason I recommend most people stick to overclocking CPU's that have an unlocked multiplier. Also, in either case the motherboard has to have the ability.

To top it off a typical Dell Workstation does not have any overclocking settings.
