Why are NTFS files taking up 48GB of storage on my 250GB SSD

I have an SSD 840 evo and i recently found out that I should be getting more storage that I have (230gb normal over my 180gb), so i figured that it was over provisioning like 30%, but its just a big, fat NTFS file thats 48gb in size...

I'm just wondering if this is normal and if it isn't, if you lads could please help me out with it I will greatly appreciate it. Cheers.

I'm really puzzled how a clean install of WIn 7 did that.
It should be 100MB, not 47GB.

2 ways to proceed:

1. Shrink that partition. You'll probably need to use a 3rd party tool to do this.
And I REALLY recommend a full backup, just in case this procedure goes bad.

2. A new clean install. Delete all partitions during the install, and the System Reserved should not be that size.
Much more hassle, though.

Or, live with it as is.

Install and run WinDirStat
Run as Administrator, and select only the C drive.
Post a screencap of the output here.

I am running Windows 10 Pro


not exactly sure on how to add pics on this site, but windirstat is essentially showing a total space of 185.5GB, with program files (rainbow six siege) taking the largest (55.6GB) and then with windows (30GB)

Already tried this and it didn't do much other than delete some temporary files that were around 100mb

It should also be of worthy value that in my disk management, the system reserved folder is the one taking 48GB and out of that 48GB, 47.5GB is apparently 'available', thus making 99% of it free...


... so can i just shrink the volume to like, 1GB and thats it? or will that just completely decimate my PC?

THAT is the issue.
The system reserved should be either 100MB or 500MB.
Not 48GB.

How did this OS get on this drive? That size for that folder is NOT correct.

Also, a screencap of your Disk Management window, please.

It was a clean install of Windows 7 from around 3 years ago.

I'm aware that the system reserved partition should be around half a gig, but as shown on my system reserved folder, 47.54GB is free and is in total 47.98GB, so I already know that my "real" system reserved partition is around 440MB, but what I'm wondering now is what I can do about it, since the other 47.54GB is literally just empty space, so I was wondering if I can just shrink the volume to around a gigabyte and decrease most of that empty space.
