I have a MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB GDDR5 that I've had for 2 years now it still works but it gets really hot if i play recent released games on ultra so I've been thinking on whether spend some money on a TI or run 2 of the same model for cheaper. I'd like to know what would be better to do.

Right now, you will overpay for any gfx card you buy. The crypto-miners and the surge in Chinese gamers have just about made buying new cards impossibly expensive... if you can even find one. I'd recommend cleaning the GTX 770 and replacing the (probably) dried out thermal paste. Then see if it runs any cooler.

If you have a board that does SLI, and does it at x8 lanes or better, you might find a used GTX 770 for about what you payed new for the first one. That would help in some games that are SLI-aware.

It's better to get something like a 1060 (6GB version) or 1070 (regular or ti). Unfortunately lately GPU prices have risen a lot because of the mining craziness. I wouldn't advice you to get a 2nd used 770. 2GBs of VRAM is not enough for today's games. As for the TI, what TI do you have in mind? Finally if yoru GPU temps are pretty high you may have to clean your card and reapply thermal paste. Good luck.

They are using GPUs to mine crypto coins like ethereum, bitcoin (although mining bitcoins with GPU isn't profitable anymore), litecoin etc. Each day new crypto coins emerge and lately their prices are rising, making mining with GPUs a very profitable business. That's why almost all mainstream to high-end GPUs are getting sold out and even if you manage to find one, prices are a lot higher than they should be. So a lot of people are getting forced to buy lower end models thus also driving up the prices in that market segment. As you can see, right now is the worst time to get a new GPU, unless you are able to find a good priced model somewhere.

As for the 1050ti it's somewhat of a parallel upgrade. Yes it has twice the VRAM amount of the 770 but it's not much faster. If you want more performance than you already got, you have to get at least a 1060 (6GB version not the 3GB one).

OK glad I could help but keep in mind 2 things before proceeding.

1) Not all games can benefit from SLI. So you may not see a performance increase.

2) If you get another 770 card and SLI them, the total GPU VRAM amount will remain the same 2GB GDDR5. You can't add the total VRAM amount. So in games that need more VRAM you may have to reduce the detail setting or select a lower resolution in order go get acceptable frame rates.

If you can live with those limitations, then go for it. Otherwise it may be best to clean your current GPU and wait for a month till the prices drop a little and then get a new GPU. The crypto currency market is very volatile right know and anything can change in a week or two. So you have to constantly keep an eye on the GPU market. Unfortunately that's the situation right now. Good luck.

Panathas pretty well explained it. The miners are using several cards ganged together to gain the most performance. It seems that equipment cost is no object to these guys.

The other reason the cards are scarce is the huge increase in the last year of Chinese gaming. Especially PUBG
