Very low FPS on Gta 5

My Fps on Gta 5 are way lower than they should be for the settings I have it set to.
I'm getting 19-25 FPS, even though I have everything set to low except for population density, but I still get the same fps if I have population density all the way down.
Even though I have a pretty weak set-up, I should get 60+ fps with such low settings.

My specs:

  • Lenovo IdeaPad 510-15ISK

    6th Generation Intel Core i7-6500U 2.50GHz

    NVIDIA GeForce GT940MX 2GB DDR3

    8GB DDR4 2133 MHz RAM

    1TB 5400 RPM

    Windows 10 Home
I checked that it was using my Graphics card while playing, and I have all of my drivers up to date.
Is this some kind of glitch that came with Gta's last patch?
Any solutions would be appreciated.

when you are experiencing low FPS ingame, alt*tab to your task manager. Performance memory. if its at almost 100% with more than half of it full of standby memory. you have a memory leak problem with the game. or simply you dont have enough RAM to play the game. or its just a memory leak bug from the game itself.

you can do any of the following to fix that.
* reinstall the latest chipset driver for your laptop. BIOS as well if necessary.
* optimize your virtual memory settings in your OS.
https://www.pcworld.com/article/2840886/if-windows-virtual-memory-is-too-low-you-can-increase-it-but-there-are-trade-offs.html
* send memory leak reports to the game support forum and wait for their next bug fix release
* download CleanMem (or any alternative tool) to help your system manage RAM better (temporary fix)
http://www.pcgamer.com/dealing-with-memory-leaks/
* transfer game files to an SSD (open world games can benefit from this)
* upgrade your RAM (add another 8Gb RAM stick of exactly the same part number)

if its not your RAM, then your laptop specs are a bit low to play the game in stable minmum of 60fps. you only have a 2core/4thread@2.5~3.0Ghz processor and your mobile GPU isnt that great.

Looking at task manager, my memory is fine.
And I'm sure it isn't my specs. I looked at lots of videos and forum posts about my specs, and it's definitely able to run Gta with smooth Fps on low settings.
I did a bit of poking around, and lots of other people seem to be having the same problem (both people with high end laptops and low end ones) so it looks like it might be a glitch with the game.

this is a laptop. dont compare pc hardware with nerfed laptop components.
I'm not.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of my drivers, which improved the problem.
Now when I start the game, it runs smoothly with an average of 60 fps on low settings, but that only lasts for around 5 minutes, after which it gets back down to 20-30 fps.
It looks like the game is just badly optimised, in which case I just have to hope Rockstar fixes it.
