Currently I have this Asus ROG G751JT

Has a I7-4720HQ 2.6Ghz has a max of 3.6
GTX 970m 3gb vram
16gb ram
1 TB hard drive

This is not powerful enough for VR and I want to upgrade into this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B073ZND1FZ

And that is cheaper than what I originally paid for my pc. But gaming wise how much more can I expect? And is there no downsides to upgrading? Is there a better option out there?

^ a lot more than 10% when it comes to the gpu.

The 970m was a fairly cut down spec from the desktop gpu (although still excellent in its day).

The 1060 mobilenis very close to a fully fledged desktop gpu.

You're looking bare minimum of around 40% more gpu processing power there , in some scenarios closer to 60%.

Its a fairly big upgrade there.

Did you check the oculus rift website? I think they should have something. But with your specs, you look like your scraping the surface with your current setup. That laptop your looking at should be fine for vr
