im using speedtest.net on my phone connected 5ghz wifi i get the speeds of 120mbps upload and download with my new fiber connection, but on my pc connected with ethernet to a 1gb switch which is connected to the router i only get 93mbps upload/download using speedtest.net also. Is this the limit of my ethernet cables or is there something wrong? network adapter in windows says its 1gb speed.

Update- got up in the attic and checked the wiring and the setup is- Arris BGW210-700 router/modem with cat5e to a Netgear ProSafe 8 port Gigabit Switch model# GS108 and cat5e from there to PC. have speed tested with nothing else on the switch and results still the same. also used same wiring with an android tv box and tested with speedtest.net and again same results.

Solution
Numbers in the 90mbps range are very telling. In general on a 100mbps ethernet connection because of the overhead your get in the mid 90 range.

Someplace in your connection you likely have a port that is only running at 100mbps. This tends to be hard to find sometimes because end router/switches do not always tell you the port speed. Your PC will though if you look at the ethernet status.

In any case the cause is almost always a bad cable. You can not tell just by looking at them you would need a fairly expensive meter to test them. The cheap testers will say the connection might be good enough to light a LED but there really is no way to say it will actually pass data.

I would try directly plugging a cable between the pc...

I would try directly plugging a cable between the pc and the router. Best if you try a couple cables. Cable failures can be very strange the cable may be good enough to work on some equipment but not others.

If I had to guess I would be suspect of the wall jacks in your house especially if they have never run at gigabit speeds. In many cases the wires are not making good enough contact with the connectors in the jack. Pretty much you only option without expensive professional testing equipment is to blindly remove the wires on each end and reterminate them hoping to get lucky and get a better connection.

use your command prompt to check maybe its more accurate, also task manager should be able to monitor your Ethernet speed too online sites are sometimes inaccurate i like to check from my PC
