Which processor would be better for video editing between the q9650 and the i5-2400? Ive heard both are almost neck and neck in other articles and forums but those were about gaming. My friend knows someone who is selling a computer that comes with an i5-2400 for $90 and ive been in the market for a new processor in general i was orginally going to upgrade from the q6600 to the q9650 which should i get?

Sandy Bridge i5s were a pretty big jump in performance over previous gen quad cores. I'd grab the i5 2400. Most reputable Sandy Bridge reviews will include productivity and video encoding type tests as well as gaming.
You might have to extrapolate a bit. Find out what processors were more or less similar in performance to a Q9650, then figure out which were similar to an i5 2400. That way in the reviews you will be able to judge relative performance even if one or neither was specifically used in the review.
