So my friend wants Windows 7 on his new pc as he doesn't like the look of 10 or 8/8.1. How do I install Windows 7 on his new pc. If He buys the product key how do I activate that when his new system boots up. There will be no optical drive so by USB. Do I have to install a windows 7 tool or something before hand? Thanks.

You’ll need a usb of 4gb or more, an internet connection, and your key. Install the tool on a working Pc, use the media creation tool to get it into a usb, and, I’m not an expert here, but you may need to extract an iso file. Once that’s fine, plug it into the computer you need to change and make sure in the BIOS you set the boot order to usb first.

The windows 7 installation media will not have the necessary USB drivers to do the install using usb media.
There is a complicated method to slipstream the needed drivers.
The easy way is to buy a sata based dvd drive to do the install.
You can remove it after you install the motherboard drivers.
7th gen processors will work, assuming the motherboard has windows 7 drivers.
Usually what does not work is 32 bit support or integrated graphics.
Or, you can install windows classic shell which will make most of the windows 10 panels look like windows 7

If you install Windows 7 on a Kaby Lake (or Skylake or Coffee Lake) CPU or a Ryzen CPU you will:
- Be blocked by Windows Updates unless you patch it manually.
- Possibly have USB driver issues especially on Ryzen. You will know this when your USB keyboard stops working when you try to set up.
- Will not have motherboard chipset drivers available but only generic LAN/Realtek drivers that run on anything
- May have serious issues if you attempt to do M.2 UEFI.
