Is it better buy a pre-built pc right now rather then building on?

I need to build or buy a new pc buy August 2018. This is because I am moving and my dad needs a pc for his work. I already have a good pc that I am leaving for him. So I am looking to build or buy a new one. I'm in the 1500$ range for a build. When I was looking though GPUs are at an insane price and was wondering if I should buy a prebuilt one at that price and is upgradable for the future.
Thoughts?

Depends what else is on the prebuilt computer. Most of them have junk that you dont need.

One reason I build my own. I put what I want on it. Not what some company thinks I need

Well weirdly going pre built seems to be the cheaper option at the moment, I think that's the first time I have ever said that

I would recommend you just wait, GPU prices are stupid right now. If you cant going with a pre built might be the only reasonable option in terms of value.

But the problem is that GPU prices are at least double from what they were 2 months ago.
RX580 8GB that I bought for $250 in late November now sells for $550+, when you can find it.

Depends on what you want. I've seen several pc's on Amazon lately that have Rx580 gpus, decent cpus, 16Gb of ram, even 250Gb SSDs for @$1000 - $1200, but it's not like you get top line equipment. With aftermarket prices on just parts like ssd, ram, gpus goin nuts a similar build will cost much more, but you get your choice of components and brands. So it's a toss up, cheaper and serviceable or more expensive and tailored.

see but i may be able to buy a pc that allows me to customize it and most allow some customization on them from the companies. Plus i am willing to buy a pre-built and later on upgrade it to what i want.
