Gaming speakers and PC monitor

I have decided to update two components of my computer.

A. First, I want some nice speakers. However, I want some speakers that are not crazy expensive and that does not clutter.

I usually play with friends (voicechat) so I would like to be able to plug my gaming headset (with mic) easily when I want to pass from speakers to headset.

I would also appreciate to minimize the amount of space they occupy on my desk.

Anything that could fit?

B. I have an old LG monitor (FLATRONW2442PA) that I bought somewhere in 2010. It's a 24 inches. It does the job, but I wouldn't mind an upgrade for something bigger and cleaner. I have a GTX670. I have a hard time figuring out what kind of technology I should be looking for. I am scared of buying something that will be "old" in 2 years. My budget would be around 500$, could be a bit more if it is worth it, but I don't want to spend over 1k$ for a monitor. Seems excessive.

For speakers I have been super impressed with my Bose Companion 5's. Not sure what 'crazy expensive' is but I think the companion 5's are very worth there price. The volume control also has pass through sockets.
