Why does task manager say that my memory is running at 800Mhz?

Hello, I bought a couple of Corsair ValueSelect DDR3 8gb 1600 memory cards. All the sticks are the same model number: CMV8GX3M1A1600C11. However, one of them needs to enable XMP to get the full 1600mhz.(The rest are fine no XMP option.)

The problem is that my old AMD motherboard (880g chipset) doesn't allow me to enable XMP or change the ram frequency in the BIOS.

I went to CPUZ and it says that the memory that needs XMP enabled is running at 667Mhz and have a max bandwidth of PC3-10700 and the ones no XMP option is running at 800Mhz and have a max bandwidth of PC3-12800

Even without the XMP, the memory ram collectively should be running at the speed of the slowest slot which is at 1333mhz. However, my task manager says that it is only running at 800mhz at the memory section (On CPUZ it says its running at 399mhz on the DRAM frequency)

Why is my memory ram running at half speed? When I removed the XMP card and kept only the ones that does not require XMP. It says that the memory is running at 1333mhz by default. (This is fine for me.)

Without XMP, the card should be running at 1333mhz. But it seems like when I put all the cards together, its running at 800mhz(and not 1333mhz). Any ideas?

If it helps, my PC is a prebuilt DX4320-19 from Gateway but I have put a lot of upgrades to this PC into what some might consider a beast workstation.

Its not running half speed , ram is dual data rate.
Taskmanager shows single data rate , its actually runnimg twice as fast as that.

800=1600mhz
667=1333mhz

If you download cpu-z it will show the speed correctly.

My 3200mhz DDR memory runs at 1600mhz because it is Dual Data Rate (DDR). The memory works on the up edge and down edge of the clock waveform which results in double the clock.

Because of how RAM speeds are measured DDR (Double data rate) you have to double or quadruple the numbers some porgrams give depending on how they are calculating it.

In task manger 800mhz means the same thing at 1600mhz, 399mhz in CPU-Z means the same as 1600mhz. According to what you are telling me your RAM is running at 1600mhz.

I know what DDR (double date rate) is. However, I have seen some youtube videos that people with 2400mhz max speed says 2400mhz on their task manager. (Not 1200mhz).

If my ram was really running on max speed (1600mhz). Then shouldnt the task manager say that the speed is 1600mhz and not 800mhz.

Plus, I have seen my task manager say that my memory is running at 1333mhz, so there is no way my 1600mhz max memory cards is running at 2666mhz.

When I open my command prompt. I typed in "wmic memorychip get speed" and the numbers are 800, 800, 800

Well when I run that command I get 3200, I have two sticks of 3200mhz RAM running in dual channel mode. So you may be right, unless it is for some reason different with DDR4 or single chaneel mode if you are running your sticks in single channel mode.

I have no idea about the layout of a gateway BIOS, but you should be able to see what is set for memory speed in there somewhere and change it.

I have 1600 MHz DDR3 memory in my laptop. When I run that wmic command mentioned above, the output is 1600 1600. Task manager also shows 1600.

That third CPU-Z image looks really strange. The size is overstated (24 GB), and the frequency is understated (399MHz) by 50%.

What happens if you try the sticks of memory independently, one at a time?

The size is not overstated, i have 3 sticks installed. (3x8). When I installed only 2 that doesnt require XMP, the speed is 1333. However, i never installed the XMP one by itself. Also, I dont think it matters what the speed is by itself because I have to install them together. I'm using slots 1 2,4. Its the only combination that they will work together.

Well - your ram is running at 800mhz (not 1600mhz as it should ).
Go into BIOS and change ram frequency.

If there are no configurable BIOS options, then you can't do anything (beside from getting a new motherboard).
