So i am going to build a pc. I want to have internet so i can play online gaming. I learned that ethernet cable is going to make it as fast as possible but the problem is that the router is far from my room and i dont want to run a cable. In my room i have an ethernet plug in the wall and i was wondering if i can just plug an ethernet cable from the wall to my and if it is possible is it better that to get a powerline adapter?
And close to my router is another pc connected with ethernet if that helps

Thanks

Ethernet can go 100 meters. The speed is based on the port it is plugged into and is not affected by distance as long as you are under 100 meters.

You want cat5e cable. You can use cat6 if you can get it cheaper but it will not run faster than cat5e because the port not the cable is controlling the speed.

You can use the Ethernet port in the wall so long as the other end is connected to your router. So for example if you ran the cabling through the roof, that would be fine. Honestly though, with the speed of WiFi these days, you shouldn't not have a problem with speed, unless you are separated from your router behind 12 inches of concrete. The need for a wired connection is more to benefit an enterprise environment.

The speed is not the issue with gaming it is the latency and ethernet has much more consistent latency than any wireless.

The in wall cable is nothing magical it is the same as if you ran a wire over the floor between your pc and the router. You must find the other end of the cable and make sure it is somehow connected to the router. Many times these terminate in a central room. You may have to rewire stuff if it was hooked up to be a phone line....also be sure your jacks are really ethernet and not phone jacks.

This is one of those things you are going to have to spend the time searching your house we on the forum can't help much with that part.

Ok so i changed my mind and i will move the router closer and will run an ethernet cable from router to pc and i will get it in the corner from wall to ceiling.
Will a long ethernet cable be worse than a short ethernet cable ?
And what ethernet cable should i get cat 5 or cat6
