So Basically when i join a game of swbf2 the 2017 version it stutters a lot when i have been in the game for a while its fine this all happened after the most recent windows update i did the update on the 28th of January 2018 i think this is an issue with my Graphics Card i had this problem before about 1 month ago when it was doing the same thing about 1 month ago when i had the problems first i had upgraded to a RX 580 the card i had issues with and i have issues with now it was fine running swbf2 at MAX settings about 100fps after i fixed it until i did the windows update which i think did something now i had after doing the windows update encountered these problems from above i had an AMD driver update In Radeon settings so i did that thinking it may solve the issues it didn't. it changed nothing and i also have done all my updates from windows update last time to fix this issue i found out that since i had a Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 580 that it had a power and a Stealth mode so i switched that card to Stealth mode reducing the clock from 1450 of the power to 1411 in stealth mode some of my specs are if you need anymore info please feel free to ask Thanks.

Solution

I tried some older drivers and things didn't get any better for me. It might because my RAM is single channel, but that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I guess I'll just wait a few months and see if things improve.

Hi there, I have a 480 system and I hated the severe stuttering I had!!!

TL;DR: Your CPU is not enough to play this title. No amount of minor tinkering or overclocking will make this title playable at smooth FPS, sadly.

The problem (assuming your drivers are good and your clocks are running normal) is your CPU. I had a watercooled, very stable i5 6500 system running with a 480 (remember it is practically the same card) and it would stutter it's way through the game. If you type in the following after pressing the "~" key perfoverlay.drawfps 1 you will notice that your card is pumping out 100+ FPS @ Ultra 1080p and your CPU is lagging behind running at 70FPS (yeah it's a weird way to measure, but so be it) then drop to 0, 1, 2, or 3 FPS, then jump back to 70s-80s, then drop again, and this is holding you back.

For personal futureproofing reasons and my available resources lying around, I switched my RX 480 over to a Ryzen 7 1700x system, and the game could not be any better. The CPU requirements for that game and many new AAA titles are redicioulous and seem way overkill. Who knew people would start making minimums i5 6600ks!!! That's crazy when you need an i7 or Ryzen 5 to play a game at high settings! Anyway, in short you need a better CPU and no amount of tinkering or overclocking anything is going to change that for this title at least. Sorry :/

Thanks for the help but i fixed it not by upgrading my system but by revering back my driver version from the latest of i think 18.2.1 to 17.1.1 i know the i5 4460 is pretty old but i believe it still has power left in it again i thank you for your help :p

So if i download the new 18.2.1 drivers do you think i will still have issues with SWBF2? and yeah AAA titles are getting more taxing but the most taxing game i play is SWBF2

I have a system with a 6700k, 16GB RAM and a GTX 1070 and my SWBF2 stutters like mad as well. I think it might just be a bug within the game in general at the moment, but I'd say stay on the latest drivers as these are normally the most optimized for the game.
