Computer help needed: I built my own computer for about 5 years ago. It's been fast and great to use. However this past weekend, it didn't turn on. I have been trying to diagnose the problem by "breadboarding". Currently, the motherboard turns on and posts with just a cpu and ram. But then when I add a graphics card, nothing turns on when I press the power button. Does that mean there is something wrong with my graphics card?

If I replace my graphic card, will that perhaps solve the issue?

I have a ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard. Corsair TX850 power supply. Core i7-2600K cpu. EVGA GeForce GTX 570 1280MB graphics card

Solution
Yes, VRM on the GPU, it's common occurrence for that part to go first mostly from overheating. Only real check is to try it in another MB and another card in yours.

Thank you CountMike for responding.

I have been using this setup without problems for 5 years. If the first scenario you mentioned ("if GPU draws too much power from MB") wouldn't that have prevented the system from working from the beginning?

In the second scenario you mentioned, "VRM is shorted", do you mean the VRM of the GPU? Why does shorting occur? Is it simply the age of the GPU?

thanks for all the help.

Amanda
