How far can I push my i5?

Hi! I have started playing games like forza horizon 3 and thinking about purchasing games that are a lot more demanding. As I was thinking of upgrading from my 750ti to a 1060. I then looked at benchmarks with my build just to see my CPU (i5 6400) struggling, I have thought of multiple routes like going with a ryzen 3 1200 and over clocking that. But I have then saw people overclocking their i5 6400s to 4.0GHz, As I think this would be a cheaper option for me. My motherboard is a lenovo motherboard with no overclocking capabilities. So I'm now on a hunt for a good budget motherboard that can allow me to overclock. If you have any good lga1551 motherboards please comment then down below.
