Would should I get?

So yesterday I bought a computer off of Craigslist, and it doesn't have WiFi capabilities. I do not have Ethernet near where the computer is being used, and the wifi modem is downstairs and a ways away in my house from where the computer is being used. So... should I buy a USB WiFi adapter (I've heard they have bad range), a WiFi card that goes into a PCIE slot (I know literally nothing about these), or something else? I'd like to hear your opinions, I'm not looking to spend more than $20-$25.

Thanks!

Some of the USB ones aren't too bad but as you said range is iffy. If you look on Amazon there are some cheap PCIe cards made by TP Link and Rosewill within your budget with good reviews.
