Hi all,

I just finished putting together a new pc. A z170 deluxe motherboard, I5 6500 CPU. I am trying to install windows using a USB.

I made the windows installer using windows media creation tool. The usb drive is a USB 3 Kingston 16gb.

Initially I successfully got into the windows installation setup successfully, but I ran into an error stating that I could not install windows in 'drive 0 partition 1'. I guess it is because my ssd drive

(Samsung evo 250) wasn't reformatted.

So I followed a tutorial that told me to go into the windows setup and enter a command prompt that let me reformatted my ssd.

This is where the problems begin.

I reformatted the drive and restarted the pc. Now, no matter what, I always go straight to bios, without pressing anything.

When I change the boot order and save, a prompt pops up and says no bios settings have been changed!

I have tried different usb ports for both my windows usb and keyboard to no avail. Not really sure how to proceed other than reinstall windows into the usb and try again, but that is going to take hours and hours. Failing that I plan to update my bios (??).

This is really upsetting as I use this PC for web development work! Any help would be extremely appreciated! Thanks.

Solution
Windows will make partitions on the drive. There is no need to format the drive as Windows will do that. Delete all existing partitions and start with an empty drive.
