Not sure if I have put this in the right category but seeing as rendering is mainly CPU intensive I went with that. My question is how long does it take you to render your 4k footage?

I'm on a new purpose build for video editing (build in sig) and wondering if my render times are abnormally slow for the build or if that's just how long it takes?!?

Using premiere pro CC, for a 1 minute film in 4k rendered in a 1080p timeline with 2 fairly heavy magic bullet looks applied, one LUT and some titling it takes me approximately 20 minutes.

Maybe that's fast, i don't know, my only reference point is my previous computer which was a sandybridge and would have taken a couple hours at least.

Anyway interested to hear others experience with 4k processing.

Thanks ss202sl - I read that before i went for a Ryzen build - I was swithering but Ryzen still turned out cheaper for me than the 7700k by sourcing a second hand chip. I'm hoping to hear from peoples actual experience of rendering and encoding 4k.

So ive always used premiere pro with my m14x r2 alienware and being older pc obviously rendering took awhile. I recently just got rx580/i5 7400 build and rendered 1.04 minutes of 4k in 4.57 seconds with da vinci resolve 15. I personally thought that was awesome for a ok build. Once i put premiere on new pc i will render same vid and update render time. Try resolve i think its quicker

the issue was simple. I updated premiere pro to the 2018 version, this seems to be optimised better for multi threaded processors and it seems to utilise my GTX 1080 Ti better. Prior to this I was using CC 2014. The old version of CC seemed to only utilise processor and GPU by about 30%, 5% max, respectively. Now CPU reaches 100%, GPU can get up to 50%. I also had both render max quality and render max depth. These features are essential for certain footage when you do your final export but not necessary if you just want a quick export. the same 1 min clip took approximately 5 minutes. Massive improvement. Yes Resolve is quicker but less capable.
