I recently came out of sleep mode to my computer crashing and needing a chkdsk scan..now when my computer is started up a couple programs / drivers crash and will not let me use mouse and keyboard. I proceeded to try in safe mode to disable programs/drivers but still could not use the mouse and keyboard. I tried using a generic second keyboard and mouse but no luck there either. I don't have mouse/keyboard that are not USB. I also tried enabling usb legacy support in bios (been searching ways to fix on the net for the past 2 hours), and disabled driver signature enforcement. I literally cannot do anything.

I haven't installed anything..or done any updates in the past 2 weeks, so I really don't understand how the heck my computer just became completely unusable by just taking it out of sleep mode.

I also don't know where my installation disk is either. (One of the kids probably took it to their house which is 3 hours away).

Please help, I have a lot of work to get done, and also have all my work files / data on that hard drive as well. (on my crappy laptop atm)

Thanks in advance.

Can you currently get into safe mode using your USB keyboard and mouse? If you can I would run chkdsk /f and sfc /scannow in the safe mode cmd to check for corruption in the disk filesystem or OS files respectively.

Device manager in safe mode will help you troubleshoot driver problems. A screenshot of that page would help.

If you can't get into safe mode with USB keyboard your options are PS/2 keyboard or OS repair install or full reinstall. If your keyboard works in BIOS but not Windows the problem is inside Windows or the disk.
