Can I change my 4770K's speed to make it run like a Core i7 7700 non k for free? If no what processor should I then upgrade to? If yes then how do I do it and what settings do I have to use? Thank you.

I've been told that in order to game optimally at 165hz with my 1440p monitor that I need at least a Core i7 7th generation processor. More specifically the Core i7 7700. I was told that my processor simply was not fast enough to handle it. Well heck if I know. It seems to run fine to me. I spent extra for the 165hz monitor because people said it'd help me game better in shooters but I don't really see that it's helping so much. A friend who knows PC hardware helped me pick out the monitor and the graphics card earlier last year in 2017. If I'm not taking advantage of my monitor I want to know.

There's my parts list. Some things have been upgraded through the years. I know a little bit about computers. I know how to upgrade the SSD, the hard drives, the RAM, and the graphics card. But when it comes to putting a new CPU in I'm afraid of doing it. Those pins look too easily damaged so I only let a professional handle that part. I've done a bit of research and I can't find anything about making a 4770k as fast as a 7700. Help me somebody please.

Solution
Nowhere in your post do you say what game you're running and what framerate you're getting. This is the first thing you should correct. Use a utility like MSI Afterburner to monitor the framerate and CPU and GPU usage while you play your game. Then you'll have some vital information:
1. Your framerate
2. How hard is your CPU being worked? 100%?
3. How hard is your GPU being worked? 100%?

Typically for what you want, high resolution high framerate, the videocard is the deciding factor as long as your CPU is decent power. You have a Haswell i7, not exactly a slow CPU. It's also unlocked(the K model), so combined with that motherboard and Corsair cooling you have, overclocking it is possible. I wouldn't do that yet, until you see how much...

Estimable
- If you already have a 4770K then you have no viable CPU upgrade options for your motherboard. You will have to buy a new motherboard as well as new DDR4 RAM if you want to upgrade CPU.

- The 7700 is only 10% faster than the 4770K. The K can be overclocked to beat the 7700. 4770K can handle modern games. It is still very powerful.

- Upgrading your CPU to play games at higher resolutions is unnecessary. Higher resolution gaming is GPU dependent.

There's nothing you can upgrade to that's worth it. A new computer would be very costly right now due to lots of inflated prices. You'd need a new motherboard/CPU/memory combo to use the 7700.
