I am transferring a boot drive (running Windows 10) from my first gen Intel system to my eigth gen system. I am using an ASRock Extreme4 motherboard and although it recognises the drive in the system it does not let me assign it to any of the lists in the bios for boot drives. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to get the system to recognise this hard drive as a boot drive so that I can at least try booting from it on my new system.

Solution
Even if you manage to get it to boot from the drive, Windows 10 is going to assume all the old hardware is in place and you may have problems. Just sayin.
if it an older sata drive change the bios from efi boot to legacy boot see if it boots. also make sure the drive on intel sata port 0. also depending of the age of the older mb. if there was no achi mode your drive may be set to ide mode. your better off using the windows media ceation tool to make a new bootable usb stick. and to reload windows 10 in efi mode and achi mode.
