Hi I am looking to buy a phone from the site followed in the link.

https://store.thinkedu.com/apple-iphones-c586.aspx

My question is can I use the Verizon locked phones with prepaid or some sort of prepaid service. My concern is I don’t want be on a contract. Id be willing to use Verizon prepaid if the price is comparible with Straight Talk wireless, what I have now .I’d also like to keep my phone number .

Keep in mind the Verizon phones probably won't work on other networks. They use CDMA technology while most everyone else used GSM. (Sprint is the only other major player in the CDMA world.) When I was on Straighttalk I had a choice of using ATT or Tmobile towers, which won't work with a Verizon phone. So even if it does unlock you'll be super limited in what service you can use. Some phones are super tricky when you try to do what you want.
We have a T-Mobile locked phone (LG Leon). Their policy is after one year of using their service (we had monthly pay as you go service), they would unlock it and allow the phone number to be ported over to the new carrier (Red Pocket pay as you go plan).

I don't know if Verizon has a similar policy, but they probably have an inexpensive pay as you go plan available.

Well first off, verizon doesn't do contracts anymore. They are still pricier than competitors like T-Mobile and Metro PCS and the only way Verizon becomes better than them is when you have more than one line on your plan. Verizon also offers their "Pre Paid" on the go type services where you buy a card from a place like WalMart that you use on the phone. As for using the locked phone on another carrier, I would think it be self explanatory that a "locked" phone can only only be used on the carrier it is "locked" to and to use it elsewhere it needs to be "unlocked" you can go to many places online that you pay a small fee to and they will provide you with an unlock code for switching to another carrier.

I would love to get an HTC One. M7-M9 can be found cheap on Amazon. But even unlocked they have zero Sprint/Verizon support, and only "partial" support for Tmo. Only AT&T has fully support. (2G-4G support.) There are some CDMA only phones on Verizon's network so check what you have and see if it even supports the bands you want to use.
