My new build is as follows: MasterCase H500P, Asus Z370-A MB, Intel I7-8700k (unlocked), 32 GB (16x2) Corsair DDR4 4000mhz, 512 GB Samsung 960 Pro NVME m.2, Titan XP GPU, Windows 10 Pro. Windows and BIOS fully updated. Enabling XMP in BIOS only allows one profile which is DDR4 19-23-23-45 @1.35v. PC will not boot and MB mem LED stays lit. Newbie to overclocking, but would like to get my moneys worth out of my DDR4 considering the $430 price point. Only working speed im able to currently run is the default 2133. Please HELP!

Solution
The I7-8700k officially supports DDR4-2666Mhz RAM so you will have issue running a 4000MHz kit.

As OC RAM is not the JDEC standard, any XMP profile will not be recognised and would require Bios intervention for DRAM primary timing and voltage control without guarantee you would reach your SPD.
It all depends on the strength of the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) too.

As you paid a handsome sum for your kit, My advice is to return the kit you chose (if you can) and select a kit at 2600MHz that are listed on the MB QVL and have been tested. If you can't then stick with whatever the system will run them at stable or brush up on your Bios skills as you will need them.

so set the frequency to 3400. Do I need to set the timing and voltage, and to what?
