Hi,

I recently bought an ASUS USB-AC56 WiFi adapter to enable my desktop computer to get a wireless connection.
My signal is great, but it seems I'm not able to get the full speed available.

When I use my laptop and the AC56 card I am able to get speeds up to 6-7 Mbps, however when I use it on my desktop computer it only reaches around 1Mbps.

I can't figure out why I get horrible speed on my desktop and not my laptop...
Ideas anyone?

My desktop runs windows 7 x64, same goes for my laptop.

Thanks

I got few ideas that may or may not help.

Wi-fi speed depends on how far are you from the wi-fi router and if there are any restrictions between two devices (e.g walls).
Since you can move your laptop around (e.g closer to the router) the connection speed is also better. But since your desktop sits in one certain place (e.g further from router than your laptop) and if you plug the adapter at the back of the PC (usually facing wall), there can be considerable restrictions with the connection.

For 2nd idea, try switching between 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz networks on your desktop. While 5 GHz network has greater speeds than 2.4 GHz network, it's range is also considerably smaller.

And for 3rd idea, use the big external dipole antenna when plugging it to your desktop to get better connectivity.

I tried these steps and nothing helped unfortunately. Even if i put my laptop ontop of my desktop, my laptop will still have greater speeds so i do not think placement is the issue.
