Hi, So I am installing an MSI z270 m7 board with an intel i7-8700K cpu and corsair ddr4 memory (2x8gb), all parts are brand new.

The motherboard will flash with power and turn off after 1 second, fans will spin and turn off as well. No beeps at all. I have a little portble Antec power supply tester that shows that the PSU is working fine but I tried booting with a second PSU anyway and still same results.

I then took the motherboard out of the case and connected only the cpu heatsink which is an astek 510lc and the PSU while trying to post with only 1 stick of memory. Tried the ram in each dimm slot and with each stick of ram and got the same results.

Im fearing the issue is the motherboard at this point but just wanted to see if there is anything else I am forgetting to check or if anyone has any ideas. Thank you

Oh crap I just looked at the socket type of lga1151 and assumed it would work. That is terrible. I hope I dont have any issues returning this cpu then.. thank you though

I would keep the cpu as well, but for full disclosure this was a pc repair job for a customer who had already purchased the mobo to fix his pc but he had an amd cpu so he wanted to replace the cpu and ram to fit the new board. So with me not knowing where the board came from in the first place and how the cpu was very recently purchased from newegg I think getting going the cpu route will be easier. But I will of course give both options.

Also Im noticing that the z370 boards seem much cheaper than the z270s. kinda strange as they arent that old.
